Omaha Garden for “New Urban Farmers”

New Omaha Garden Park (NOGP) is thrilled to announce its 40 acre community garden to local families and groups, making it the newest and largest Community garden in the Metro. Omaha including cities across the United States continue to recognize the growing benefits of urban agriculture.

Land owner, Curt Hofer, has given the thumbs up on the use of an under-utilized piece of land which would otherwise be left neglected as location of the New Omaha Garden Park development.

The planned purpose is to create a shared vision with local gardening families and create a picturesque piece of property on the West end of the city for larger scale urban gardening.  Steve Lindsey, a volunteer and tenant of the Gardens said, “The nature out here is amazing, the soil is super rich and I can really grow a big garden with the plots sizes they have available”.

Community gardens encourage an urban community’s food security – it is the opportunity to connect and work together with the community around food, ecology and education. Dan LaGrange, a director of the Gardens said, “This is more than just about growing tasty vegetables, fruits and flowers in a public space.  It is about working with our neighbors to take control of both where our food comes from and how it is grown – as well as what our neighborhood looks like. We want to transform our communities into healthier, more
enjoyable and productive places for us to live in.”

The New Omaha Garden Park property is located on 192nd just south of Dodge.  NOGP also includes a farm, duck pond, ball diamond, walking trails, beekeeping, fruit trees and shrubs with more to come.

If you’re interested in gardening but don’t have the property or the space for a garden plot, then a community garden plot might be the answer for you!
