America Recycles Day is November 15th

America Recycles Day events take place annually, on or around November 15th, with the goal of educating and encouraging Americans about recycling and buying recycled. ARD encourages participants to fill out pledges to recycle and reduce their waste more in the coming year. Last year, residents in every state of the nation participated in America Recycles Day and pledged to recycle. This year we want to include you in celebrating this national program by filling out a pledge card.
Why fill out a Pledge Card?
The Lincoln City Recycling Department in partnership with Midland Recycling, Lincoln Public Schools, and Wastecap Nebraska is working to promote this nationwide event by encouraging local business men, women and their employees to step up their personal and business recycling efforts. By completing a pledge card each employee is entered into both the local and national prize drawing. To add an element of competition, the business with the greatest percentage of participating employees will receive $100 in Nebraska lottery tickets for a drawing among entries at their business.

WasteCap to Host Lunch and Learn in Columbus
Approximately twenty people gathered in the first week of October in Columbus, NE to discuss electronic waste. Lunch was provided as speakers from WasteCap and the EPA spoke about topics relating to hazardous waste regulations and recycling options for the community. Electronics Update
Dell Updates Recycling Program
The electronics company Dell has made changes to its already existing recycling program. Previously, Dell offered a mail-in service that would only accept electronics made by Dell after a new purchase was made from the company. Now, when you make a new Dell purchase, they will accept products of any label for recycling. For those who do not wish to purchase a new system, but have old Dell equipment, the company provides an on-site pick up for the equipment. There is also an option to have a working computer donated to other organizations. This type of program already exists in European countries and Canada and seems to be working fairly well. Dell has decided to bring it to the United States after pressures from environmental groups and others wanting to know what to do with their old computers.
Please see their website for more information.

EPA Posts Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements
In the spring of 2004, EPA evaluated the Hazardous Waste Generator program by surveying a number of stakeholders. Most people commented on the need for a more user-friendly program to help better understand the rules and regulations. The EPA has decided to fulfill this request by providing web pages for information about regulation updates and summaries of the rules originally located in Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) at Part 262

Department of Energy offers Energy Saving Assessments
The Department of Energy (DOE) is pushing to help inform the public about ways to save energy. As part of their new campaign, the DOE will be performing energy assessments to a number of industries across the nation. This will not only save energy, but also help reduce costs to the businesses. They plan to conduct 250 assessments and are currently taking applications for other industries to be considered. This application can be found on their website.
