WasteCap Nebraska is Awarded $94,000 Grant from NDEQ

LINCOLN, NE – WasteCap Nebraska was awarded a grant in the amount of $94,040 from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality's Litter Reduction and Recycling Grant Program. Altogether, the state received 74 applications requesting more than $2.5 million for litter reduction and recycling projects. A total of more than $1.6 million was awarded to 55 projects throughout Nebraska.

The grant provides funds annually to Nebraska projects in three areas: public education, cleanup, and recycling. The grant awarded to WasteCap Nebraska through recycling funds will be used to develop four online training sessions, recycling market development, continued on-site technical assistance, educational workshops, and other business-recycling support WasteCap Nebraska provides to businesses throughout Nebraska. WasteCap also holds several collection drives and lunch and learns throughout the year. "The grant funded projects provide innovative ways to educate the public about litter reduction and recycling in effort to reduce the amount of material sent to Nebraska’s landfills" said Mike Linder, director of NDEQ.

WasteCap was also awarded a one-year contract with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to test pilot several strategies for the EPA’s voluntary WasteWise program for businesses. The program assists businesses in developing and achieving waste reduction and recycling goals.
