What:
On October 12th, 13th and 14th, 2011, internationally recognized author and speaker, Bob Willard will speak with business leaders, students, faculty and the general public about the “business case” for sustainability, and provide advice for sustainability champions on how to navigate barriers to change within their organization. Dr. Willard’s workshops will focus on providing actionable tools for implementing sustainable practices that protect the environment, attract and retain talent, inspire innovation and increase profitability.

Why:
Corporations are under increasing pressure to embrace social and environmental responsibility. Until now, there’s been very little evidence expressed in business language showing the benefits of the “triple bottom line” (People, Planet, Profits). Bob Willard will demonstrate that the benefits of sustainable development strategies make good business sense.

Wednesday, October 12 – OMAHA
6-8:00 pm- Presentation to UNO- CBA classes with live streaming

Thursday, October 13 – LINCOLN
8-11:00 am- Dr. Bob Willard workshop – “The Next Sustainability Wave” (Registration required) A workshop based on Dr. Willard’s book, The Next Sustainability Wave,  focuses on two emerging drivers to sustainability strategies:  a compelling business case and a “perfect storm” of threatening market forces.
11:30 am – 1:00 pm – Sustainable Business Awards luncheon keynote address: “The Sustainability Advantage:  How to Prosper in Challenging and Changing Times.”  (Registration required)  WasteCap Nebraska awards presentation to Nebraska’s exeplary sustainable businesses.
3:00 pm-  Presentation, Q & A on UNL campus- on being a sustainability champion in your organization; highlights of The Sustainability Champions Guidebook.
6:00 pm – Policy Development for Sustainable Communities Discussion- A conversation with Lincoln’s Mayor Chris Beutler, Dr. Willard and sustainable business leaders in Lincoln. What policies should be in place to encourage business sustainability in the community?

Friday, October 14 – OMAHA
8:30-11 am – Breakfast for Sustainability Champions Workshop. Based on Dr. Willard’s book The Sustainability Champions Guidebook, this workshop outlines the steps to take, tips and techniques to use, and derailers to avoid when introducing change to one’s own organization
