The Member of the Year Award is presented to a WasteCap member that has demonstrated loyal support for WasteCap Nebraska through participation in events, volunteering time, treasure or talent, and by taking advantage of WasteCap member services. The award winner may be an employee of a member company or an individual member.

State Farm is very proud to be an engaged member of WasteCap NE since 1995. State Farm has encouraged it’s Green Committee members to participate in the many wonderful WasteCap Green Business Luncheons and we were able to host a luncheon as well.
We frequently tap into WasteCap’s resources and most recently have implemented their CFL recycling program and have WasteCap represented at our annual Earth Day Fair in April.
State Farm has given myself (Mike Malone) the time away from work to volunteer for a number of WasteCap events. In the past I was able to assist in judging the entries for the Sustainable Business Awards and this year I was able to help with the annual Sustainability Summit. (Placing follow-up calls to businesses and being a presenter during a breakout session on Green Committees/Employee Engagement).
WasteCap’s “Weekly Eco-Facts” has been a big hit with our employee group. I post the weekly facts on our employee “NewsWire” and typically get between 300 and 500 hits.
The Recycler of the Year Award is presented to a service provider that has shown innovation in making recycling more accessible to end-users and in developing new markets for previously hard-to-recycle materials. The recipient employs the highest possible standards for responsible materials handling.

State Farm has a wonderful Employee Health & Wellness program. State Farm offers a number of benefits at little or no cost to our employees which include:
- Wellness Assessments: (when completed will give employees $15 a month rebate on their health insurance). The assessment points out areas of concern for the employee and gives them the information needed to help them address those concerns. (nutrition, fitness, etc..)
- Tobacco Cessation: State Farm has teamed with the American Cancer Society to provide at no cost to our employees and their immediate family members the Quit for Life program.
- Stress Help Center: This program offers employees One on One Health Coaching with a representative to help employees deal with stress or weight loss issues. It can be done over the phone or online at no cost to employees.
- These are just a few of the examples of the many health & wellness programs available to our employees.
State Farm has a very engaged employee group when it comes to sustainability programs and community involvement. In the community employees have donated time working for the Lincoln City Parks and MoPack Trail clean-ups as well as the Neighborhood Works program.
The employee driven Green Committee has implemented a number of positive changes for State Farm which include: removal of Styrofoam from our campus, the use of reusable plates, glasses and flatware in our café’s, one stop recycling centers, the creation of our annual Earth Day Fair and much more.
Our Earth Day Fair hosts up to 30 local business that inform our employees on how their families can reduce, recycle and reuse. The fair is typically visited by over 600 employees.
We also hold events during Earth & National Recycling Weeks that make the following benefits available to our employees (which is support by other WasteCap members): Employee Personal Document Shredding Days (Shredding Solutions), Electronics Recycling Days (Star City Recycling) and Reuse Days (Eco Stores).
State Farm is very proud of its environmental record which wouldn’t be what it is without the passion our employees in and out of the workplace.
